Spend Some Time Sailing This Summer
Sail Canada accredited learn-to-sale camps
Set sail this summer with the Calgary Yacht Club’s Sail Canada-accredited camps, perfect for young adventurers ages 5 to 17. Running weekdays in July and August, these full-day camps offer hands-on experience with sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding—all equipment provided. Whether your child is brand new to sailing or returning for another season, they’ll gain confidence on the water in a safe, fun environment.
Youth Camps run Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm
Before and aftercare is available at $5.00 per day (1 hour before/1 hour after)
Boats, kayaks, paddleboards and lifejackets are supplied by the Calgary Yacht Club
Please ensure your camper comes prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, lunch, snacks, bug spray, and sunscreen.

Summer Camps:
Youth Camp - Water Sports
• This program is designed for youth 5-17 who want to try a variety of water sports. This camp will cover the basics of sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding in a fun, safe and controlled manner.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - Wet Feet
• This program is designed for children aged 5 - 6 to introduce and familiarize them with the water environment. The course is taught using our sturdy and stable fleet of Optimist Prams. In addition to time with these boats, onshore games and crafts will round out the day.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - Opti Basic
• This program is designed for children 7-11 years old with no previous sailing experience.
Opti Basic is geared to the fundamentals of sailing in the International Optimist Dinghy. Students will build confidence while learning to safely rig, launch and sail their boat under the close supervision and guidance of their instructors. Elementary theory is introduced through both on water and on-shore games and crafts. This camp follows the CANSail 1 curriculum

Youth Camp - Opti Advanced
• This program is designed for children 7-11 years old with their CANSail 1.
Opti Advanced follows the CANSail 2 curriculum. The syllabus includes: crewing, skipping skills, sailing terminology, sail theory, and upwind sailing.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - 420 Basic/Advanced
• 420 Basic/Advanced is a mixed program designed for kids ages 12 - 17 with either no sailing experience or their CANSail 1.
• Students will build confidence while learning to safely rig, launch and sail their boat under the close supervision and guidance of their instructors. Participants will sail in the Club 420 Dinghies and can either request a partner or be paired with someone of similar skill level.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - Laser Basic/Advanced
• Laser Basic/Advanced is a mixed program designed for kids ages 12 - 17 with either their CANSail 1 or their CANSail 2.
• The Laser is a highly popular dinghy designed to be sailed single-handed. The Laser is robust and simple to rig and sail, often for competitive racing.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - 29er Basic/Advanced
• 29er Basic is a mixed program that introduces sailors age 12-17 to the high performance 29er skiff. Sailors must have either their CANSail 1 or their CANSail 2.
• In this program, sailors have the opportunity to try out both the skipper and crew positions. The 29er is an ideal next step for an experienced 420 sailor. Sailors will learn the intricacies of sailing a more challenging and faster boat, how to make improvements in rigging and control systems, splicing and whipping, and rudimentary boat maintenance and sail care skills.
• Participants can either request a partner or be paired with someone of similar skill level.
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - Opti Fast
• This program is designed for children 7-11 years old with their CANSail 2.
• Opti Fast follows the CANSail 3 curriculum. An advanced sailor may be able to work on their CANSail 4 (contact manager@cyc.ab.ca to discuss further)
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
Youth Camp - 420 Fast
• 420 Fast is a program designed for kids ages 12 - 17 with their CANSail 2.
• CanSail 3 progressively builds and develops the skills learned in CanSail 1 and 2 with the focus on keeping the young sailor engaged with stage appropriate challenges and learning. An advanced sailor may be able to work on their CANSail 4 (contact manager@cyc.ab.ca to discuss further)
• This program runs 9am - 4pm, Monday to Friday

• Laser Fast is a program designed for kids ages 12 - 17 with their CANSail 3.
• Laser Fast follows the CANSail 4 curriculum
